Civilian Police Advisor - AMERICAN SYSTEMS - Alabama

International Civilian Police work within the OSCE typically involves assessing, monitoring, advising and mentoring the local civil police in order to ensure that law and order are maintained effectively and impartially according to democratic policing principles, and that human rights and fundamental freedoms are fully protected. It may also involve the selection, screening and training of local police candidates. Such work seeks to reform and develop the local civil police, or to create a new police force where no police force exists, and improve host country law enforcement capacity, including its ability to combat terrorism, organized crime and address public corruption.

About REACT and the OSCE:
In November 1999, the participating States (pS) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) endorsed Rapid Expert and Assistance Cooperation Teams (better known as REACT) as a tool to enable the OSCE to deploy civilian experts more rapidly to the field to undertake activities associated with conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation. The OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) sponsors election monitoring missions in OSCE pS and Partner countries. The OSCE’s Partner States include: Japan, Republic of (South) Korea, Mongolia, Thailand, Afghanistan, and Australia (as Asian Partners for Cooperation), and Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia (as Mediterranean Partners for Cooperation).
