Engineering Manager - Orion Group - San Antonio, TX

Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Engineering Manager, based initially in Algeria, then 24-30 months residential(Europe or Asia) then 6 months 28/28 Algeria.

Job Description

• The main purpose of this role is the oversight and acceptance of the engineering work performed by the EPC contractor, leading a team of discipline engineers.


• Acts as Project Engineering Authority


• Ensure that process safety reviews, HAZOP’s, peer reviews, value improving practices, project bench marking, etc. are performed at the appropriate points in the project schedule.


• Fully support project delivery and take the lead in identifying and developing the full list engineering deliverables, i.e., the Master Document Register.


• Define and control the Engineering Contractor’s scope of work so as to be able to verify earned value assessment on engineering progress and, if deemed to be under-performing, identify and implement corrective actions as appropriate


• Represent engineering, or ensure adequate representation, at project reviews and audits as part of the overall project assurance programme.


• Ensure that all technical decisions are subject to formal management of change processes. Champion a policy of management of ‘no change’ post AFC design freeze.


• Play a significant role in the process of supplier/vendor and contractor selection to ensure their technical capabilities meet the required project standards.


• ” As required represent the client in tender clarification/evaluation, contractor/vendor selection, contract/purchase order negotiation and placement.


• Provide assurance, and intervention as necessary, for procured equipment and vendor supplied packages to ensure technical compliance.


• Oversee that shop/field technical queries, non-conformances, concession requests, etc. are resolved in a proper and timely manner.


• Manage the technical and quality delivery of the project scopes in accordance with the Statement of Requirements and Basis of Design.


• Own and deliver the project Technology Plans.


• Participate in the development of the project risk register and take accountability for developing and delivering engineering team mitigation’s or opportunities.


• Play a major role in monitoring and controlling the project schedule/progress and budget, ensuring all engineering related activities are delivered taking into account quality, cost and schedule

Skills & Experience

• Engineering degree


• Extensive years experience in Engineering roles


• Experience with an Operator on a major project (£200m plus)


• Focus on onshore facilities


• Background in Process or Mechanical preferred


• Track record of leading teams in multicultural and difficult environments ie joint venture, association etc. in Africa or Middle East or Asia


• Prior experience in an Engineering/EPC firm a plus


• Familiarity with French a plus


• Experience of Algeria a plus

This is a contract position.

The rate for this position is negotiable.
